Rounding out the cast is Sydney’s bodacious bestie, Sienna. Sydney’s a recovering good girl who wears a lot of pink. Sienna likes to wear a lot of tight black leather with stilettos. They’re a great pair and Sienna gets the lion’s share of the zingers.
“I’ll have a vodka cranberry and she’ll have a Merlot. You’ll have to excuse her, she’s spent the last week fucking her brains out with a gorgeous stranger and can’t seem to snap out of it.” Sienna smiled to the appalled flight attendant, a pleasant-looking mid-forties woman who was wearing way too many pins on her bulging uniform. From the look on her face, I was sure the flight attendant wasn’t used to a raunchy-mouth like Sienna in first class.
Jack’s story unfolds right along with Sydney’s. Twists and turns create the opportunities for romance. New careers are born. Pasts are revealed. Family skeletons are unearthed. Exes and wannabees ebb and flow throughout both novels.
Jack is an Alpha but he’s not an asshole. Sydney is kind but not a pushover. Nobody needs to be rescued here. The characters are very self-determined and intelligent.
Vi Keeland’s Cole novels are like your favorite sweet treat. They start strong, stay the course, and end with you wanting more. There is a bit of a cliffhanger between the books, but both of them are out now, so it’s really a non-issue. I had to wait to read the second book and I wasn’t suffering from a book hangover. I really DID want to see how things played out, though.
A Happily Ever After ending with a delicious, familiar epilogue. Need to escape for a while? Curl up with Jack. Or just stare at him for a while. Sigh…I’ll wait with you.
